Sentinel

Free · No subscription · Forever

Your GivEnergy system shouldn’t disappear
with the company that made it.

Free monitoring. Honest pricing. Engineer-on-call.

GivEnergy went into administration on 9 April 2026. Sentinel keeps your inverter visible, watches it for faults, and connects you to the engineers at Solar Tech Support when something needs fixing. Cloud infrastructure is genuinely cheap — so monitoring is free, forever.

  • Works with every GivEnergy hybrid · AC · AIO · 3-phase
  • Local-first — your data lives on your network
  • Built by the team behind Solar Tech Support

Why free?

Cloud is cheap. We charge for the engineering, not the monitoring.

“We’ll monitor your system for free, forever. If you want extra features like 12 months of history that’s a token £1/month — cloud infrastructure costs us pennies per user, so we charge pennies.”

“The catch? If your inverter goes faulty, expect a call from Solar Tech Support with a no-obligation quote to fix it — and we’d always recommend getting two other quotes too. That’s the model. No fine print.”

See what your engineer sees

A live picture of every watt, every second.

When you call Solar Tech Support, this is what the engineer pulls up. Real-time power flow, live numbers, every register the inverter exposes. Below is a synthetic demo so you can poke around without an inverter — the numbers move on a fake half-sine, but the layout is identical to your live dashboard.

How it works

Four steps. Fifteen minutes. Then it just stays on watch.

  1. Install

    Run the free agent

A tiny agent on any PC, Mac or mini-server you leave on — runs quietly in the background, no command-line babysitting. A plug-and-go Raspberry Pi appliance is coming soon.

A few minutes · no command line

  2. Pair

    Connect it to sentinelapp.solar

Open the dashboard, enter the one-time code shown by the agent. Encrypted outbound connection only — nothing to forward on your router.

    About 30 seconds

  3. Live

    See your system, live

Power flow, battery, solar, grid, history — in your browser. Mobile-friendly. Free forever on Live; add 12-month history with Trend at £1/mo.

    From the moment it pairs

  4. Stand guard

    Sentinel watches for faults

Email alerts the moment we spot trouble. If something needs fixing, an STS engineer rings you with the diagnosis already in hand.

Ongoing · zero effort from you

App pricing

Free to monitor. £1/mo for history. £2/mo if you know what you’re doing.

Three tiers. No contract. No surprises. Engineer help is a separate menu — see below.

Live

£0Free forever · real-time monitoring + basic settings

Real-time monitoring plus basic settings — charge slots, modes, target SoC. Everything the GivEnergy portal used to do for free, we keep doing for free. No card needed, no trial that lapses, no nag screens.

Trend

£1per month · 12 months of history

Everything in Live, plus 12 months of stored history. The big one: when something goes wrong, the engineer can look back at the exact moment the fault started — voltages, currents, temps, cell drift — and faster diagnosis thanks to historical data.

Engineer

£2per month · cell-level data + power-user controls

Everything in Trend, plus the engineer-grade stuff: cell-level battery diagnostics, DC force-charge, advanced register access. You can break things with these — we can't be responsible if you do.

Engineer services · via Solar Tech Support

Need a human? Solar Tech Support engineers handle the fix.

The Sentinel app spots faults; the engineering happens on the other side of the family. Same UK team, billed per task. No subscription required.

Settings change

£25 per request · engineer does it

Don't want a subscription? Or want help with a tricky tariff? Ask an engineer to make the change for you. Takes minutes; you get a confirmation note.

Book with STS →

Remote diagnostic

£75 per fault · written summary · matches STS

Engineer logs in remotely, investigates the fault — Sentinel-spotted or customer-reported — and writes you a plain-English summary with the recommended fix. No site visit needed.

View on STS →

On-site repair

From £245 minimum visit fee · parts and labour quoted separately · via STS

Actual repair work, quoted by Solar Tech Support using their existing pricing. Sentinel is the lead source; STS does the engineering.

FAQ

Common questions

No. Sentinel is built and run by RVTC LTD (Solar Tech Support's parent company) for customers left without manufacturer support after the April 2026 administration. We talk to your inverter using its existing local network connection — no GivEnergy cloud account required.
The local dashboard and fault detection run on your network even if your internet drops. The cloud features (alerts, the £1/mo dashboard from anywhere, remote help from Solar Tech Support engineers) need internet, but the agent itself just watches your inverter regardless.
Yes — basic settings (charge slots, modes, target SoC) are free forever on the Live tier. The £1/mo Trend tier adds 12 months of history so you can see how a setting change affected your system. The £2/mo Engineer tier adds power-user controls like DC force-charge and per-cell battery diagnostics. If you'd rather an engineer made the change for you it's £25 per request.
Sentinel reads your inverter every few seconds via its existing local Modbus interface and watches for things customers usually only notice once they hurt — battery over-temperature, cell imbalance, sustained export-limit clipping, error codes, voltage excursions, slow degradation over months, known-buggy firmware. If we see one, you get an email and our engineers see it in the triage queue. We tend to ring you with a diagnosis before you ring us.
Any PC, Mac or mini-server you leave on most of the time works fine — the agent is a tiny background process, no command line to babysit. A dedicated plug-and-go Raspberry Pi appliance (a pre-flashed ~£75 kit) is coming soon for people who want a low-power always-on box.
