Why Sentinel exists
GivEnergy Ltd went into administration on 9 April 2026, leaving roughly thirty thousand UK households without manufacturer support for their solar and battery systems. GivEnergy Software Ltd announced a paid cloud tier, but trust was already broken.
We're the engineers at Solar Tech Support — installers up and down the country were ringing us asking how they were meant to keep servicing that fleet. Sentinel is our answer. Pair to a customer's GivEnergy system with a six-character code, read it live, and diagnose faults in minutes without a site visit — read-only by default, and free to approved installers.
The three brands, plainly
- Alectrona — our new-install business. Engineer-led solar PV across the UK, with a built-in feedback loop from the Solar Tech Support workshop.
- Solar Tech Support — diagnostics, settings changes, on-site repair, remedial work. Every brand of inverter, UK-wide.
- Sentinel — the engineers' app for GivEnergy. Free remote access for approved installers to diagnose any GivEnergy system, so STS can fix what's fixable and Alectrona can replace what's beyond economic repair.
All three are operated by RVTC LTD, a UK private limited company registered in England and Wales. The same engineers; three brands to keep the work cleanly separable.
How Sentinel is funded
Sentinel is free to approved installers and always will be; the cloud costs are pennies. It exists because a well-supported GivEnergy fleet means fewer stranded customers and more work for the engineers at Solar Tech Support. That's the model — no app pricing, no tiers. What we won't do
- We don't sell data. Not to advertisers, not to insurers, not to anyone — and Sentinel sets no tracking cookies. (See privacy policy.)
- We don't change your inverter settings without your explicit consent — every write is gated on a customer-armed window and recorded to a permanent, tamper-evident log that no engineer can alter or delete.
- We don't pretend to be the official GivEnergy product. We're not affiliated with GivEnergy Ltd or GivEnergy Software Ltd. We just built a tool because the engineers who service that kit asked for it.
